This structural steel mezzanine is being used to create a separate workspace inside this Midwest manufacturing facility. The modular walls seen in this photograph were also supplied by Porta-King for this project. The modular walls are tied into the underside of the decking to create a tight seal around the perimeter of this enclosure. In addition to supporting the modular walls, this structural steel mezzanine also accommodates the clear span ceiling design of this system as well as an overhead crane that is used to move heavy material in and out of the enclosure.
The standard design of our mezzanines is IBC compliant. The IBC (International Building Code) is the combined effort of three model code groups, and is intended to be a comprehensive set of regulations for building systems consistent with and inclusive of the latest existing codes. The IBC requires structures, including of mezzanines, to be designed to resist the strongest seismic forces in a much larger portion of the continental US than previous national model building codes. PK Structures leads the mezzanine industry by creating standard designs that are IBC compliant.
As a standard our PK Structures structural steel mezzanine will utilize modified Type 1 or Type 3 AISC designs for beam to column connections. PK Structures utilize these designs to achieve code compliance without the need of knee bracing or cross bracing to achieve the necessary seismic resistance. The use of knee bracing or cross bracing for structural support can greatly reduce the useable space underneath the mezzanine deck.
