| Prefabricated Catwalk Connecting to an Existing Stairway |
PK Structures supplied this prefabricated steel catwalk for use by this Midwest manufacturing facility. Utilizing a prefabricated steel catwalk enabled quick construction when compared to a conventionally built structure. Our local dealer worked closely with this customer to create a layout design prior to fabrication of this prefabricated steel catwalk at our manufacturing facility. Detailed approval drawings were provided for an on-site review to make sure the catwalk would be fabricated to fit properly.
After fabrication, this prefabricated steel catwalk was shipped by truck, off-loaded and placed directly adjacent to the construction site. The construction crew began assembling the catwalk that same day. Completion of the project was completed in just a few days. Standard decking was supplied for this catwalk, which consisted of a 3/4” oriented strand board (OSB) board installed directly on top of a 20 gauge corrugated B deck.
PK Structures offers a wide variety of other flooring options to meet the functional requirements the specific applications. If a stair with landing was to have been added to this prefabricated steel catwalk, it would ship fully assembled and ready for installation. PK Structures standard stair design is preassembled. A preassembled stair design will speed up the installation and create a much stronger stair system when compared to an assembled on-site stair system. PK Structures included a unique and highly functional guardrail design for this prefabricated steel catwalk. The guardrail consists of a panelized structural framework in which individual sections are easily fastened to the deck of the catwalk.
