Porta-King’s modular wall system was used by this Georgia based manufacturer to construct a modular control room to house sensitive control equipment from their harsh plant environment. The flexibility of our modular walls enabled the customer to create a custom floor plan layout that met their specific requirements for this control room.
A Porta-King representative worked on-site in cooperation with the customer to create the desired final layout design for this project. By reviewing the design features that would be most important for this application, it was determined that our 3” Versa-King modular wall system would be the ideal wall system for this project. One of the advantages of the 3” Versa-King is the strength of the vertical post used to connect the wall panels together.
The structural integrity of the post would be strong enough to enable the customer to create a load-bearding roof that would allow personnel to walk on the roof of the room for maintenance purposes.
To create this load bearing design, a series of I-beams are placed on post connections spanning the shorter dimension. These beams are placed on 4’ centers. The vertical connecting posts serve as structural columns to support the beams and to create a structural system capable of supporting the desired load capacity. The customer also wanted to add a double acting, bump door for easy entry and exit from this room. In order to support this door, Porta-King created a structural steel tube frame that was installed on-site. The frame was designed to blend in with the modular walls. Tube frames like this are typically painted by our factory to match the interior and exterior wall surfaces.
