| Modular Code Compliance |
Porta-King modular wall systems can be designed to comply with Federal ADA regulations without sacrificing your specific functional requirements.
Specifically, 4.1.1(3) of the Federal Codes and Regulations require that "areas used as work areas shall be designed and constructed so that individuals with disabilities can approach, enter, and exit the areas." Approach deals with accessible routes, ramps, handrails, landing areas, and such, which are items that are not addressed by Porta-King, but, need to be addressed on site by the customer or contractor. Where Porta-King gets involved is with "enter" and "exit." In order for Porta-King buildings to comply with these regulations, we modify our buildings so as to meet ADAAG 4.4.2. (Head Room), 4.5. (Ground and Floor Surfaces), 4.13.6. (Maneuvering Clearance at Doors), 4.13.8. (Thresholds at Doorways), and 4.13.9. (Door Hardware) requirements. These minimum requirements will allow a disabled person with a supervisory position to "approach, enter, and exit" the work area.
NOTE: Federal Requirements may be superceded by specific requirements defined by state and other local codes. This information is intended to provide general requirements for ADA compliance. We encourage you to contact your local building department for requirements on ADA compliance in your area.
NOTE: Two-story structure or buildings placed on mezzanine structures may have special ADA requirements for access. We encourage you to contact your local building department for requirements on ADA compliance in your area.
However, if a disabled person is hired as a worker, and the worker is required to use the modular building as a workspace, then additional modifications need to be made to the building. The Federal regulations governing these additional modifications include ADAAG 4.2.3 (Wheel Chair Turning Space), 4.2.4. (Size and Approach), 4.2.5. (Forward Reach), 4.2.6. (Side Reach), 4.17.4 (Toe Clearance), 4.32.3 (Knee Clearance), and 4.32.4. (Heights of Tables and Counters).
Porta-King can accommodate most of the above requirements in our standard building designs or by specifying optional accessories.
