Porta-King Keeps Car Rental Agencies in Middle of BWI Action
November 23, 2004

Car rental agencies at Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport might have been homeless without the help of modular buildings, according to Porta-King Building Systems, a major manufacturer of modular and pre-assembled buildings.
BWI needed the car agencies out of a terminal garage so that they could make major renovations to the facility. To provide a home on an adjoining lot, six Porta-King Pivot-Lockª buildings were assembled to serve as temporary housing for the agencies' garage operations. Alamo, Budget, National and Thrifty Dollar were housed in 12' X 16' Pivot-Lock buildings while Avis and Hertz were temporarily located in 20' X 16' units. Each building featured an eight-foot roof overhang to provide added protection for both customers and agency workers.
Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) purchased the temporary buildings from Jessup, Maryland-based Warehouse Concepts. Initially the buildings were to be demolished after use at BWI, but on last word, the MAA decided to take advantage of the modular buildings' mobility and relocate the units for permanent service at other airports.
Pivot-Lock System -- The patented "pivot and lock" system allows walls of the unit to be set-up in minutes. Panels are framed in aluminum extrusions, windows are pre-glazed and doors are pre-hung to further speed assembly. No special tools or training are required.
Porta-King has been a leader in custom-design pre-assembled buildings since 1969. To request a free quotation or product literature, or to schedule a site visit to your facility, contact us at info@portaking.com or call 800-284-5346.
