Porta King Project Highlight - Birmingham International Airport

What do millions of people plus have in common with Porta-King Building Systems? Well - they will likely access their rental cars via a structure comprised by Modular Wall Systems put in place by Porta-King and their dealer, Harrelson Modular, at the Birmingham International Airport.  This modular complex will be used as the temporary home for all Rental Car Agencies during a major renovation of the main terminal to be completed within the next 4 years.

By utilizing the Modular Wall Systems that Porta-King provided, the airport will be able to meet critical project completion deadlines MUCH faster than had they used conventional construction. This enables huge savings and lessens stress on passengers by getting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible.
With this project Porta-King needed to showcase its design flexibility and meet some rather unique challenges:

Problem:

Due to the flexing associated with the weight of car traffic on the next level, the ceiling could not be secured into the pre-stressed concrete directly above the modular walls.

The Solution:

A structural panel has been utilized to create a support system to clear span the 23 feet necessary for the application. The panelized ceiling is secured to the exterior concrete wall of the garage and to the Porta-King Modular Wall that formed the outer-most wall of the enclosure. These panels serve as the support for the ceiling system for the new space while also providing an insulation barrier for climate control.

This successful design and implementation utilizing Porta-King Modular Walls was created through the cooperative efforts of our dealer, Harrelson Modular, and a local architect. Harrelson Modular also assumed responsibility for the installation of the complete Modular System.
