In the U.S. military, 24% of all soldiers on active duty smoke, which is a much higher rate than the civilian population. As military bases restrict smoking on their grounds, soldiers and other personnel who smoke find themselves without a safe, comfortable place to do so. This contradiction can be especially difficult for them in the hot of summer or cold of winter, when they aren’t allowed to smoke next to entrances to stay warm or cool. You can solve this problem by installing smoking shelters for them. [Read more…]
In the waste industry, it’s important that all waste is properly weighed and sorted to know where it will go, be it an incinerator or a recycling plant. Porta-King recently built a prefabricated scale house for a transfer station at a recycling facility in the Midwest. Our scale house protects the scale monitoring equipment for the drive-up truck scale and shelters the attendants who monitor the scale and interact with the truck drivers.
Easy Access for Trucks & Employees
The scale house Porta-King constructed for this Midwest recycling facility is a structural steel building measuring 8 feet wide by 20 feet long so all the equipment and personnel can fit inside comfortably. In addition, the scale house has a 30 inch building bump out with custom stainless steel service window. The bump out enables scale operators to get closer to truck drivers’ windows. A sliding service window enables easy conversation. [Read more…]
As someone who works in a manufacturing company, you know how important it is that the quality of your products is ensured throughout the manufacturing process. With that in mind, if you find that your current means of ensuring quality control is lacking or you simply need a new facility, a modular environmental room will be a great investment.
Types of Quality Control
When choosing how your environmental room will be used, you must know the specific product you’d like tested and its desired use. Then, decide if you will test your product for failure or statistical sampling: [Read more…]

Is your school hosting important guests? If you’re trying to encourage them to contribute or donate to your school, there are many ways to convince them that their money is going somewhere worthwhile. When in doubt, be sure to showcase these three areas.
In the Classroom
Education technology in the classroom has been shown to increase student engagement when implemented and used correctly. With higher student engagement and thus better grades, your guests know that your school is dedicated to quality education. Be sure to show them where there is room for improvement so they know how their funds will be applied. [Read more…]
The Bank of America in Glen Burnie, Maryland had a problem. Their current store-front vestibule was not ADA compliant, so they had to design an entirely new structure that met those standards. The architect in charge of the project recommended Porta-King’s prefabricated vestibule as the right solution.
The general contractor contacted Porta-King for pricing before bidding the product and affiliated installation. The project was eventually awarded to Potter Construction of Charlotte, North Carolina. With their new Porta-King prefabricated vestibule and layout, the entrance is now ADA compliant. [Read more…]

Many countries around the world like France and Canada are adopting green roof laws, which require commercial buildings to have solar panels and partially green roofs. Naturally, if America adopts these laws, it can affect the modular industry—but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.
What is a Green Roof?
A green roof is a roof that that reduces pollution. For instance, some green roofs are covered with plants like grasses and shrubs to help:
- Reduce building energy consumption
- Improve air quality
- Reduce the Heat Island Effect (HIE)
Your government building needs to look nice, so you most likely than not have staff that are employed to keep the grounds trimmed and presentable. If you have your own groundskeeping equipment, like mowers and trimmers, you need some place to store them so they are protected and conveniently placed for groundskeepers. With that in mind, consider a prefabricated equipment shelter for your government building.
Convenient and Easy Access for Groundskeepers
If you don’t have a dedicated place on-site to keep your groundskeeping equipment, then you probably have storage elsewhere. As a result, your groundskeepers have to drive elsewhere to get the equipment, and then send it back to the off-site storage at the end of the day. That’s a lot of unnecessary driving. [Read more…]
For truck stops that blend their own fuel and ethanol on site, protecting the blending equipment is of the utmost importance. They prevent equipment failure and poorly mixed fuel blends that could lead to regulatory fines and possibly cause damage to equipment and vehicles. With that in mind, Durasteel ES equipment shelters installed at Pilot truck stops throughout the continental United States provide shelter for blending equipment.
Protecting the Delicate Blending Process from Outside Sources
Creating fuel blends for vehicles is a precise process that requires the right ratio of fuel and ethanol. To prevent mistakes or accidents, equipment needs to be protected from:
- The elements
- Employees who are not certified to handle the equipment
