| Bus Shelter with Solar Panel |
This bus shelter was supplied to a Southeastern university to provide cover for students and faculty while they wait for the campus transportation service. This unit arrived fully assembled and was installed in a matter of minutes. The typical installation process consists of off-loading the shelter from the truck and anchoring the unit onto an existing concrete pad or footings. We will typically ship these units on a flatbed truck to enable easy access with a forklift of crane.
This particular Porta-King bus shelter is 6’ wide and 14’ long. It includes a domed roof utilizing tinted acrylic glazing material to resist cracks. In addition, this structure was equipped with solar panels that generates and store energy to power lighting that was also included with this structure. An aluminum bench was installed along the back wall of this shelter to provide comfort to pedestrians while they wait for the bus. The layout for this unit pictured is representative of our floor plan “A”. This means the fourth side of is completely open to allow pedestrians to move freely in and out of the shelter.
Porta-King offers two other standard floor plans and countless custom layouts for our shelters to accommodate virtually any application requirement. Standard construction for our prefabricated shelters consists of full height glazing on all perimeter walls. Standard glazing is 3/16” tempered safety glass. Porta-King can also offer a wide variety of glazing options for special application requirements. The most popular glazing choice is tempered safety glass because it is resistant to scratching from vandals. In addition, tempered safety glass will break into small harmless rounded pieces. Although this particular design included a domed roof, the standard roof for our shelters consists of an insulated panel with an aluminum face on both sides. A membrane skin is added to the exterior to create a weather tight seal. All shelters include a self contained gutter assembly on the two long sides.
