| Prefabricated Shelter to Enclose Exterior Stairwell |
This prefabricated shelter was installed to create a cover over this stairway at a downtown parking ramp. The shelter was constructed from heavy duty structural steel tubing and arrived fully assembled which enabled immediate installation onto the existing structure. The shelter was custom designed to fit the unique site requirements of this application which included the accommodation of two different elevations. We delivered the structure to the site where it was off-loaded with a crane and anchored into position. This was a four-wall structure, but Porta-King also manufacturers two and three wall prefabricated shelters for installation against existing structures.
The primary reason for installing this shelter was to prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to the secured lower level of this parking ramp. To further enhance security, a key card access system was installed by the owner to limit access to only authorized individuals. This prefabricated shelter includes tempered safety glass windows on all sides for 360 degree visibility. Window frames for our shelters are constructed of maintenance free anodized aluminum. In addition, this shelter includes weatherproof roof structure with an integral gutter system for proper drainage during heavy rain or snow fall. All Porta-King prefabricated shelters are painted with rust inhibitive acrylic enamel paint. A virtually limitless selection of paint colors is available to match any corporate or architectural color scheme. The steel tubes which come in contact with the existing structure are pre-coated with a bituminous coating, applied as a rust inhibitor prior to the application of the final coat. All Porta-King shelters can be equipped with electrical accessories including lighting, heat or other electrical service.
