Amazon Fulfillment Centers are by no means small. With over 90 locations worldwide, the largest can easily fit 28 football fields. With such large facilities, it’s important that the teams have a quiet and productive place to work. That’s why Porta-King once again teamed up with Amazon in Eastvale, California to install modular wall partitions for improved team rooms. [Read more…]
When products like fruits and vegetables are shipped into port, they need to be inspected to make sure they comply with USDA regulations. Inspection is important to prevent the importing of illegal goods and the spread of exotic pests, which can devastate the native ecosystem.
Porta-King recently completed a project for a power management company located in Pennsylvania. They needed a solution to help cut down noise in their plant and turned to Porta-King, who supplied them with an indoor equipment enclosure.
Reducing Plant Noise
Indoor equipment enclosures are great for creating sound enclosures for loud equipment in power management or other facilities. The company needed to enclose a Data Physics LE 1316 vibration/slip table used for vibration testing of a variety of aerospace components, which made the facility uncomfortably loud. [Read more…]
Porta-King has designed new office space for Scott Air Force Base (SAFB) to merge an entire department that was relocating from another building. This unique project required Porta-King to work within the support structure of a very old building to create the mezzanine bays and modular offices required for the new space.
Reusing Older Buildings Reduced Overall Cost
Mezzanines can be installed in buildings at a fraction of the cost and time it would need to build new space. Since there was enough usable ceiling space available in a pre-existing building, there was no need for SAFB to build an entirely new structure to accommodate the move. [Read more…]
There is no project that is too big for Porta-King to handle. Porta-King recently partnered with a company that was designing and building a new production laser system for a Midwest based automotive manufacturer. Porta-King’s role would be to design and supply the enclosure to create a light tight environment for the lasers to operate.
We integrated this modular enclosure with one of our mezzanines. We constructed this sophisticated equipment enclosure to house the four-position yag-laser cell manufacturing system used to produce car parts. The modular wall panels were supported by our mezzanine that also provided support for a series of large air handler units . These air handlers will be used to evacuate smoke generated by the lasers. Enkei, a manufacturer of custom wheels, inspects each wheel produced to be ensured of quality throughout the various stages of completion. To do this, Enkei needed a place where their product could be inspected safely and efficiently. Porta-King helped them reach their goal by recently installing modular inspection huts along with a custom roof.
Tours Without Disrupting Work
Enkei offers tours of the facility for customers who are interested in the process of manufacturing custom wheels. Tours are given via catwalks above the factory floor to keep visitors a safe distance away from the everyday operations on the factory floor. To give visitors a safe view of the work below without disruption, Porta-King utilized a custom panelized roof with skylights to enable visitors to see inside the modular inspection huts from the catwalk above [Read more…]
Porta-King recently completed an environmental enclosure for a company in California to house their new 3D printer. In order for the printer to work at optimal levels, an enclosure that provided excellent environmental control was needed.
What is a 3D Printer?
Simply put, a 3D printer acts much like a normal printer, but instead of printing on paper with ink, you are printing a 3D object with wax, plastic, or metal. Also called “additive manufacturing,” an object is first created in a digital design program before being sent to the printer to be built layer by layer.
This easy process helps businesses save thousands of dollars when producing prototypes or components. 3D printing could also be the future of modular construction by creating the components needed faster and cheaply.
3D printers are becoming more popular thanks to their ability to easily produce a wide range of components for:

Versa-King systems have long been the go-to framing choice for modular buildings like in-plant offices and other interiors commonly found inside factories and warehouses. Their reliable, quality products are virtually maintenance-free and have been put into just about every indoor setting imaginable. However, Versa-King used to only provide two versions of this particular modular wall systems.
Luckily, Versa-King recently expanded their capabilities by introducing a new 6 inch wall system, the VK HD-6, that can be used for extra tall applications while still providing the same stability and safety as other Versa-King wall systems. But don’t worry: the new product is still in line with the brand’s historically high standards. [Read more…]
Seismic resistant structures become all the more important when dealing with expensive, sensitive scientific equipment. The Lawrence Berkeley Lab in California recently hired Porta-King to construct a modular office for their Cyclotron control room.
Seismic Activity on California’s Hayward Fault
The Lawrence Berkeley Cyclotron Lab is built on the Hayward Fault Line. This is the same fault line that caused an earthquake so strong it leveled much of the San Francisco Bay Area in 1906. In fact, the University of California Berkeley campus suffered several devastating earthquakes from a magnitude 3.0 to 4.0 in 2011. [Read more…]
The sales team and Porta-King are constantly challenged with the question,” will your products help us in this situation”. In fact, some of our greatest innovations have been initiated by a challenge presented to us by one of our customers. The old saying, “desperation is the father of invention”, has real meaning to guys like me out in the field who are challenged with devising solutions to our customers needs. The good news for me is that I have a great team of design experts to support me with innovative solutions utilizing Porta-King modular wall systems.
The extensive heat this summer presented this challenge. “How can we get some heat relief to our employees? Not only are our customers concerned about the reduction in productivity caused by overheated employees but first and foremost they are concerned about their health and well being.
We designed custom modular “Cool Rooms” that fit the bill. These units were designed to be climate controlled and offered full perimeter visibility of the work area. The layout of each room is custom designed to fit the application. Our standard Versa-King modular wall consists of a 3” thick sandwich panel and can include R values of 10 to 13 depending on the composition of the wall. Higher R values can be achieved by incorporating some of the thicker wall construction options available with our Monolith modular wall system.
In addition to the thermal insulation we will often use some of our sound reduction techniques to improve the overall environment inside the Cool Room.
For this particular application, our customer had some of the rooms assembled on site while others were brought in from our factory already assembled and simply slid into place. Our factory assembled models, like the one shown in this photo, include an integrated floor structure are highly portable. These units were used for those rooms that would be moved frequently from location to location. Both of these modular options enable our customers to quickly and easily create comfort for their employees wherever it is needed on the plant floor.
We can also utilize a Porta-King mezzanine to elevate these modular “Cool Rooms” into the unused space above the plant floor. This not only frees up existing floor space for other activities but also provides the inhabitants with better visibility of plant floor operations.
We have many standard offerings as well as full custom capabilities to meet your unique construction application challenge. We promise to get it right for you.
Remember stay cool, and when the winter winds blow these units will switch roles and allow for a place to warm up.
