The Challenge: Creating a Dual-Purpose Enclosure in a High-Activity Manufacturing Facility
At a Bodycote facility in Rutland, Vermont, the team needed a custom-built enclosure to support the machining and inspection of precision metal aircraft components. The space had to accommodate both a quality control area and an active machining zone, all within the constraints of a fully operational manufacturing environment. Speed of construction and minimal disruption were critical, as the project needed to be completed on a tight schedule.
The Solution: Turnkey Modular Build with Integrated Features
Porta-King designed and installed a two-part modular solution:
- A 24’ x 24’ quality control area topped with a storage loading roof design to maximize usable vertical space.
- A 24’ x 28’ machining enclosure with a 14’ high ceiling for equipment clearance and airflow
Both spaces were built using a steel/poly/steel panel configuration for added durability and cleanability, with matching panel material used for the ceiling in the machining area. A key feature of the design was a large 14’ x 20’ removable wall section that allows oversized machinery to be brought in or out as needed without compromising the structural integrity of the enclosure.
Porta-King also conducted a site evaluation during the design phase and provided full turnkey installation services. Our field team worked closely with the client to ensure a smooth construction process with minimal impact to ongoing facility operations.
