Hoosier Energy in Illinois needed a place to house their electrical control equipment and water pumping systems for their power plant. Reaching out to Porta-King, they were able to find a solution that would house their equipment safely and be quickly constructed.
Minimizing Construction in a Restricted Area
Due to the location of the construction site and security reasons, Hoosier Energy wanted construction to be quick and require as few workers as possible. As such, they eventually chose Porta-King to install a prefabricated equipment enclosure for their power plant because of our method of construction.
Prefabricated buildings were the perfect choice because of their speed of engineering and construction. Prefabricated buildings are brought to the construction site factory assembled and ready to use. With no assembly required, there is no need for extra workers, ensuring that presence on the site is minimized. Perfect for sensitive areas that need to remain secure.
The unit Porta-King installed for Hoosier Energy is a Durasteel ES custom equipment shelter measuring 10 feet by 16 feet, with an 8 foot height. In addition to having the right size to harbor the equipment, the equipment enclosure also required other customizations, including, but not limited to:
- 6068 double swing doors
- 160 CFM wall mounted exhaust fan
- 240V 4,800 watt wall mounted heater
- 100A, single phase, 12 circuit load center with main breaker
These features make sure that the equipment inside will remain cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It wouldn’t do to have equipment overheat or freeze, as it could cause expensive damage. The main breaker helps ensure that equipment can be easily and safely shut down if need be. The exterior walls of the equipment enclosure were built with 14 gauge steel and painted with single color paint for a uniform look. The roof is gabled with no overhang so snow won’t accumulate. The building was also fitted with 4 lifting lugs so it can be easily removed from its base and moved elsewhere should the need arise.
